- Plans for Neighborhood Internet Hookups on Hold - coverage by the Tribune Review on April 8, 2003
A plan to supply recreation centers in or near five city neighborhoods with
computers and online access is on hold for a year because officials say
Pittsburgh can't afford to spring for Internet connections.
BUT --- these connections should be provided at no charge as part of the Cable Contract signed years ago by city officials.
- Post-Gazette: Interfaith group turns up heat -- Tough queries get officials to pledge community help
And after Mayor Tom Murphy's executive secretary Tom Cox said he couldn't commit what he said was $600,000 to put computers in the city's recreation centers, Roddey also promised to try to find funds for that project.
- Tribune Review: Interfaith group demands changes
Youth-recreation committee members made an impassioned plea to the mayor's office to scrap plans to build three Ultimate Frisbee fields for $100,000 and, instead, to use the money to install computers at recreation centers.
Cox did not agree with the proposal, citing the city's budgetary restraints this year. Upon hearing the response, the crowd booed him.

Discussions Leading to the Decisions for the Public Action
Three discussion lists were established by the Youth and Recreation Task force. The main talk list had more on topic discussions and postings. The noise list had insights as to other elements that might be of interest. The announce list was just the broadcast messages and no discussions.
